It was very hard to work through on many levels, but it is also a healing work. I've received more help from this course and my self refection than I have from useless counselors 'in person.' Some might question "Writing won't heal my disease...?" or "Processing will not bring back my loss ....?" But what if it will add inner peace, leading to more happiness and fulfillment? Coming to terms and acknowledging is often a needed step from suffering towards healing. Any improvement however can only happen when we stop procrastinating and are willing to pay the price. When our desire to feel better is bigger; when we believe, or at least hope, that we actively can improve our emotional or physical well-being. Ending procrastination and being active might be your very first step.
Perhaps you’ve already mastered your personal story or perhaps you’re in the midst of understanding what your story involves. Either way, more and more people are discovering storytelling, therapeutic writing as the most beneficial and rewarding form, articulating their experience, processing the unspoken and unspeakable, and coming to terms with what happened. Suddenly, perhaps step by step, they feel lighter, freer, more alive. They are no longer owned by their story, but become the owner of their story. They step from denial into ownership and authenticity. Admission and confession are steps towards success, so in many cases, the truth will literally set us free.
Many of them have become passionate writers, running smaller or larger blocks, have written books or are writing for major news sites, are contributors for MasterStories.com. Often what has started out of need and desperation became an inspired and fulfilling passion; helping others find closure through their shared story and experience. See some of MasterStories.com Contributors here - and get inspired by their stories.
And you can get there, too! Everything starts with sitting down and acknowledging the past and present. One of our readers recently worded it beautifully in the following way:
“Ultimately I am a survivor ... still angry though ... so it’s so important to go through all the pain in writing and then bury it.”
Just for oneself. That’s where it starts. There is no need to share it with others or publish it. However, there is also no need to hide it and not publish it. Everyone may decide for oneself, one day at a time.
The effects of storytelling are multifold: as soon as you begin writing, you become an author with the ability to own your past, or even create a legacy. Suddenly you might understand and see your true purpose in life. And just as you might have been inspired by reading accounts of overcoming hardship, so your story - if you decide to share it - will inspire other people like you to fight past hardships.
“Listen to the people who have been where you are, and are now where you want to be.”

You could ignore this calling or get your story processed and written, because your untold story might need telling! For your own sake and healing, for your own progress and process; and maybe there might be people waiting to be inspired by what you have confronted and achieved in life, whether you think it’s insignificant or not.
